What handiwork is this,
But the tracings on a hand.
What tomfoolery is this,
But the mappings of a land.
Embedded within the hand
Lies the tracings of a life.
The future imprinted in flesh,
The scribblings of joy and strife.
Tell me my fortune, I asked my palm;
Pave for me life’s path without qualm.
If there be misfortune, I could do worse,
Misery, plague, suffering, death by hearse.
Etched in shadows some lingering curse,
Leaving me forlorn, or even much worse.
My handprint tells a story never told,
What do I see there in calligraphy bold?
My palm tells me that I will grow old;
I’ll buy it if that’s my bill of goods sold.
My handprint whispers the story of me,
A map on aging parchment signifying me.
BECAUSE I AM OF LITTLE TO NO IMPORTANCE OF MYSELF, I AM CONTENT TO KNOW THAT 'I AM' HAS ME ENGRAVED IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND THUS, I AM A PART OF HIS...HAND PRINT! IS THIS NOT AWESOME?! IN OTHER WORDS? I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT MY HAND PRINT JUST SO GLAD THAT I AM A PART OF 'HIS'. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS.
How ironic! Being run over by a hearse! On the fast track to a cemetery.
I don't believe in palm reading, but I certainly believe that hands can tell a lot about how a person lives their life. I'm amazed when I look at mine with skin still smooth and pink as if I were 20 and never did any hard hand work. No veins protruding or swollen joints, crooked bones and deteriorated, cracked fingernails.
The only explanation I have of my hands looking so well after so long is "they have had no wear and tear." Still virgin after all these years.
This collection of poetry addresses the nature of time, reflections on the natural world, the difficulty of loss,
contemporary social issues and gratitude for life.
Love ya!
Jane
