I don’t remember her every day like I know I should;
When I forget, I later remember deeper than I could.
My mother loved me with her heart full and profound;
When in her presence, never felt lost and always found.
That is now a lifetime ago, when she was always there;
Now she fills an empty space that only she could spare.
I carry a piece of her soul within me, somewhere deep,
Preserved there as a sacred talisman her memory to keep.
Sometimes I don’t recognize the sadness when it emerges;
The longing and the missing but vague and distant urges.
She had an autumn scent of light rain and colored leaves,
Especially at this season, I feel her floating in the breeze.
One idea lingers that brings upon me a chronic sorrow;
She never saw me grow older, not today, not tomorrow.
LOVELY WRITE. DON'T KNOW HOW OLD YOU WERE BEFORE SHE WAS TAKEN TO A BETTER PLACE, JOHN, BUT FOR SURE...SHE WILL SEE YOU IN 'ETERNAL TOMORROW'. THANKS FOR SHARING, MY FRIEND. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS.
It is obvious from your poem that your mother meant a lot to you in your life. There is a certain sadness that creeps in that she did not live long enough to see you agent you what you are, a teacher and a poet, as well as world traveler.
My mother has also meant a lot to me for her continual support of me through many phases of my life. And, she is still around, watching me age as she ages well beyond normal, but still sound of mind if not sound of body.
I believe this came deep from the well of you. She must have seen you as the years molded you, I'm sure. There is only a thin veil that separates us dear John. What she missed was probably your hugs, and your smile, one day you will see her again I'm sure, I lost my dad, and I live in hope of seeing him again too. Be well, love xo
