Let us now pose a question never before asked,
A question that lies behind a forbidding mask.
If the soul is eternal, never before in time born,
Does that mean that we are from eternity torn?
If we know the idea of eternity as well spoken,
Does that mean at our birth eternity is broken?
The hallmark of humanity lies in the life of soul,
To partake of an eternity that is uniquely whole.
But if we are suddenly thrust in the midst of time,
What then of the eternity that I claim to be mine?
Let us ask ourselves this question one last time,
By way of speculation, the answer entirely mine.
If my soul passes back into eternity when I die,
What right do I have the life of the soul to decry?
Curiously, we already live in the eternal moment,
Time but a relative thing that needs no comment.
Eternity an idea having seized us beyond measure,
Motivation of mind we hold as precious treasure.
Perhaps life is all the eternity we ever need to know,
It seems like we live forever, a gift of God to bestow.
It is a truism to note that nature asks no questions;
But prefers quiet reticence only to make suggestions.
The sun does not ask whether to shine on my crown;
Trees reach to the heavens without looking around.
The stars glow in the night against a blackened sky;
Earth routinely turns on its orbit without asking why.
Thunder asks not of its sound, nor lightning its flash;
Storms show their nature without being called brash.
Perhaps some questions should never be asked,
Life has enough mysteries, do not take it to task.
I am already convinced there is still much more,
Many more mysteries to uncover from life’s store.
Did my soul exist before my outer body was formed,
There in eternity, before my body the soul adorned?
A chimp may have questions when it sees a flower;
Never expect an answer that seems beyond its power.
Let us not ask questions that lie beyond our grasp;
Let us pursue the imaginable, awaken and hold fast.
GOD IS A SPIRIT AND WHEN HE GAVE/GIVES EACH OF US LIFE, HE BREATHES LIFE(HIS SPIRIT)INTO OUR FINITE BODIES WHICH IS MADE OF DUST, GIVING IT LIFE. WE WERE CREATED IN THE GARDEN AS INFINITE BEINGS BUT SIN SEPARATED US AND WE BECAME FINITE. OUR SPIRIT FROM GOD, LIKE GOD, NEVER DIES BUT THE BODY WILL ONE DAY DIE AT WHICH TIME THE SPIRIT WILL RETURN TO GOD. ON JUDGEMENT DAY THE BODY AND SPIRIT WILL BE CHANGED, IN THE TWINKLING OF AN EYE(BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL STATE IN THE GARDEN BEFORE SIN)AND BROUGHT UP BEFORE GOD. THOSE WHO HAVE REPENTED AND ACCEPTED SALVATION WILL LIVE AND REIGN WITH 'HIM' FOREVER, THOSE WHO HAVE REFUSED TO REPENT AND HAVE NOT ACCEPTED SALVATION WILL BE DAMNED FOREVER... THIS IS MY UNDERSTANDING AND SINCE IT CORRELATES WITH THE WORD OF GOD, IT WORKS FOR ME. AS FAR AS ALL NATURE- ITS MOVEMENTS AND PECULIARITIES ARE CONCERNED...I ACCEPT IT ALL AS ONE OF THE WAYS GOD PROVOKES US TO WONDER/THINK ABOUT...'HIM'. I HARDLY HAVE 'ALL' THE ANSWERS BUT ONLY THOSE FOUND IN GOD'S HOLY WORD, THE BIBLE. STILL I AM CONVINCED, LIKE YOU, THERE ARE MANY, MANY QUESTIONS...FROM MANY DIFFERENT SOURCES, FOR WHICH I HAVE NO ANSWERS. AMEN. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
Honest questions, John, with no fully formulated answers. I've been a Christian most of my life, so my world view, and all views of things eternal, are fixed by what Scripture reveals. There is so much to know. Honestly, the only intelligent response I can give your deep meditation is this: "For now we only see a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known." 1st Corinthians 13:12. A moving write. Well done. Peace to you... rlc
One of my favorite poems by you. I am going to hold fast to that belief, that we are eternal. In my 58 years in this lifetime, I have had the good fortune to remember 3 lifetimes. the first one I recalled when I was twelve years old, it scared me, the next two was in my adult life, I could handle them better. We do come again. I have experienced it first hand. Thanks for always being part of my morning. Love and hugs. Vienna.
Questions, unquestioned discoveries, and answers in parable and rhyme…. This collection records a journey starting with a 1960s retrospective and the first man on the moon, moving to a new millennium welcomed in with a terrorist spin, family crises,
If you tend to believe romantic, passionate, masculine poetry is a thing of past eras, read "She Intrigues Me," and be swept away in the beautiful craft of a contemporary poet of love.
Love ya!
