Different Versions
By John Herlihy

When it comes to desire,
Wanting makes no incursion.
When it comes to forever,
The word carries an aversion.
When it comes to friendship,
I will befriend even Persians.
When it comes to love,
I never cast any aspersions.
When it comes to lust,
I have a few perversions
When it comes to travel,
I have made many excursions.
When it comes to religion,
I have made one conversion.
When it comes to the truth,
I have made a few diversions.
When it comes to wrong-doing,
I have made some subversions.
When it comes to the unknown,
I feel lost in alien submersions.
When it comes to my humanity,
I express it in different versions.

A nice immersion in versions; some of them bordering on perversion.

I resemble that remark because one of my best friends is Persian the long way by India in transit to America.

reading this, I just wonder whether there is a place for extremity or not. And the last two lines convince me in the contrary, putting the poem's title in the last place, closing the circle. Still, there is room for a harmonic solution. Cheers, alex
