Believe, you ask me. What do I believe?
What does it matter what I conceive?
This vital question makes me explore,
What lies within my spirit that I adore.
My beliefs have nothing to do with me;
I am the accumulation of what you see.
I stand tall, to see clear, nothing grand;
My belief system takes me by the hand.
Where it leads me nobody truly knows;
No one can imagine what God bestows.
Believe, you ask me. What do I believe?
What does it matter what I conceive?
Some blame me for reliance on faith.
Does reliance on myself make me safe?
Some identify their fate thru sheer guess.
With apes as ancestry, we settle for less.
Why place hope in the purely physical,
When our true reality lies in the spiritual.
Are we easily ready to give up our soul?
What can replace it to make us whole?
Believe, you ask me, what do I believe?
What does it matter what I conceive?
The answer helps me to fully identify,
What lies in me to connect to the sky.
My beliefs tell me precisely who I am,
A human who reflects a divine origin.
Qualities and attributes of the Divine,
That lift us far beyond all earthly slime.
I look in the mirror and know who I see,
A unique human creature is what I be.
Sly questions beyond answering arise;
Every answer has its own compromise.
Either I believe in the world on its own,
Or I believe in another world unknown.
Each person their own decisions make,
That end up shaping our personal fate.
In the end, belief comes from the heart,
To influence our lives and set us apart.
Believe, you ask me, what do I believe?
The answer I always keep up my sleeve.
THERE IS A SONG ENTITLED; "WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT?" AND IN READING THIS POST A VERY SIMILAR QUESTION CAME TO MIND; IN AS FAR AS MY JOURNEY IS CONCERNED, 'WHAT DOES WHAT I BELIEVE GOT TO DO WITH IT?" E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G !!!!! WONDERFUL WORK...ENJOYED. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
I was always taught yo believe half of what what you see, half of what you read, and half of of what you hear. The trick is knowing which half, and I usually get it wrong.
Belief is planted safely in the center of our hearts and soul. I can see by the last line that you wear your heart on your sleeve. (smile) what a clever write dear John, I have enjoyed dipping into your thoughts today. Be well, write on. ..
It is good to believe in something in your life, even believing in yourself is an inspiration to move forward. I am NOT a negative person, and I tend to look at everything in a positive way, so I believe in myself and God, for He gives me the self-confidence to do what I need to do in life, and I let no one sway my beliefs either!!!
You have every right to believe what you want. That is the freedom that I hope everyone on the planet will have someday. Beliefs are generally relegated to those things that are not readily explained. So we have to put our faith in them without proof and just believe.
The only problem with that is over time, some things that were relegated to belief had become clearly wrong. Usually based on one fear or another from personal experiences. For example, many people believe that snakes are slimy, creepy and poisonous. Some of that belief (fear) comes from the snake in Genesis of the Bible. In fact, most snakes are not poisonous, although many can deliver a nasty bite, and the poisonous ones can be easily identified. Snakes are actually not slimy, but have hard, muscular bodies and skin/scales that feel quite good when a snake is held in your hands. While seeing forked tongues flashing out may seem creepy, snakes are only sensing the environment with the ability that their tongues have to detect food and danger. Their eyes may seem opaque and dead, but it is their tongue, hearing and sense of smell that guides them, not their eyes.
It is dangerous to believe things just because others tell you to or because rituals have been built up around beliefs that might advance you in your social status. Cults rely heavily on beliefs for control of their minions.
As usual Johhn, you have given us much to think about, written in your unique and graceful style . . . These two lines, however, I'm having diffiulty understanding . . . In my opinion your beliefs have "everything" to do with you.
"My beliefs have nothing to do with me;
I am the accumulation of what you see."
In my opinion your beliefs have "everything" to do whith you
What a man believes, he believes for himself, not for another. This is especially true in spiritual matters. You've created a curious ambiance (about yourself) with these words. Peace... r
