I forget yesterday, but remember tomorrow,
Tomorrow promises hope, yesterday sorrow.
When I forget tomorrow, I remember yesterday,
The future holds no promise if the past has its say.
Today needs no remembering, filling our eyes,
Its moment holds no guessing, no compromise.
Yesterday lies buried under the weight of snow,
Tomorrow lies underground as roots that grow.
Today lies between the eternity of dawn and dusk,
Time’s moments always convey a special trust.
Tomorrow holds it breath as it waits in the wings,
Yesterday leaves in its wake a song that sings.
One day may bring happiness, another day sorrow;
As we ride time’s arrow yesterday, today, tomorrow.
I have heard these sentiments in various ways since entering therapy many years ago. I still have problems letting go of the past sometimes even though all those "futures" have turned out much better than all those "pasts." Better to remain in the "now" with its potential to change for the better.
the time's arrow is straight to pierce thru all our notions, such as back and forth, yesterday and tomorrow. When the arrow is broken it is only today, here and now, the point of self-sentiment in the times. A wonderful piece. Cheers, alex
Our minds help us forget yesterdays. They belong in the past and not brought out to the light of day. I agree that we should focus on tomorrows and let the past slip away.
