Today, I will be making my trek back eastward to Europe, the Middle East and finally the Far East, for a final fling in Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand before heading back to Doha at the end of August. I will be off-line initially but hope to visit, post and do reviews whenever possible along the route. Like the bird in the picture, I will soon take flight. Cheers, everyone.

Another Kind of Clay

By John Herlihy

I was afraid I was going to die,

And then I was afraid that I wasn’t,

Afraid if my life means something,

And then I was afraid that it doesn’t.

I was thinking my life journey a free ride,

And then I was thinking life as sheer demand,

Always seeking out people taking my side,

And then seeking forces with power to command.

At first, I wanted to stay at home,

And then I wanted to take my home with me.

My home now lies deep within my heart,

Always there, a place of peace, there inside me.

I was always questioning the truth of things,

And then questioning the apparent lie,

Wondering if I would miss what life brings,

Then wondering if I would miss life when I die.

I was always trying to answer life’s mystery,

And then realized life’s mystery answered me.

The grand specter of the unknown followed,

Flashes of the unseen in my eyes glowed.

I was always at adds to know my own mind,

Then saw my mind hardly knew better than me.

My mind could never settle on what to find,

It could not always fathom what I want to see.

I never trusted the raw knowing of my heart,

And then I began feeling what the heart may offer.

The heart admittedly a soft, tender, fragile thing,

Ready to break and shatter at what life will bring.

People speak of the devil with a kind of contempt,

Saying that there isn’t any such silly thing.

But when I ended up doing wrong, I did lament,

Devil or not, my own wrong-doing I myself bring.

My origins now remote, lost in yearning;

My destiny a boat, tied to the earth’s turning.

We think our lives shaped in its own way;

But my heart is made of another kind of clay.

TRUTH BE TOLD...WE ALL, AS EARTHEN VESSELS, HAVE HEARTS MADE OF ANOTHER KIND OF CLAY. AND OUR HEARTS NEED TO REGULARLY BE MADE-OVER BY THE POTTER. SOMETIMES IT'S JUST A REPAIR, BUT THEN AGAIN AT TIMES, THEY ARE BROKEN COMPLETELY AND REMADE. THE POTTER...GOD...MADE 'EVERYTHING'(EVERY TYPE OF CLAY THERE IS)AND OUR HEARTS AND NECESSARY REPAIRS ARE NOT UNFAMILIAR TO HIM AT ALL. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS.

How malleable your clay has evolved, bring you to that place most of us aspire to be: a door being opened to inner peace.

this poem is about Mortar and Pestle: when the former is round but the latter is square -- nothing works. All our lives revolve this point -- how to get along with other things, animated and otherwise. Besides, sometimes we are the mortar, sometimes the pestle, despite of sex. A great piece in all aspects. Cheers, alex P.S. bon voyage, John

Bon Voyage, John . . . Have a very productive trip and may you find peace wherever you may land. I'm envious.

A very profound piece of introspection.

With envy I read of your up coming sojourn. You reminded me of the weekend my Thai friend and I were supposed to spend in Chiang Mai that had to be scrubbed because there was a fight between a Thai kick boxer and an American boxer, filling all of the hotels so there wasn't any rooms available.

It gives me great pleasure to read your well-formed and well-constructed poetry every time you post. You are a fine poet and you don't strive to prove yourself, but your work proves itself to us. I wish you a pleasant journey and enjoy your good self while traveling. Hope to see you back soon.

This is an excellent summation of life.

Our hearts can be so weak,
it brings to our knees,
then it beats strong,
and we stand tall as trees.

Safe travels on your journey.
