-- Destiny Unkind --

By John Herlihy

We often speak of destiny

as being blind.

We seldom speak of destiny

as being unkind.

All my childhood dreams

were torn from air.

Who ever thought it possible

They may lead to despair.

Harsh miseries and deep sorrows

made their way.

Their insistence as equally real

as happiness may say.

Destiny that knocks on my door,

who are thou?

Always filling my personal cup,

then, soon, now.

Why are you at times so abrupt,

so very unkind?

Your fertile pastures can relieve

the desert in my mind.

Is destiny but a wilderness wolf

howling in the wind?

While phases of the moon shine down

On a life we cannot rescind.

Perhaps only the vantage point

From where I sit.

Destiny prevails and may our lives anoint,

We cannot escape what is writ.

Whether kind or unkind, I am always there,

To serve life’s mandate.

The scroll of my destiny will nothing spare

As I patiently await.

DESTINY IS NOT REALLY UNKIND, IT JUST DOES WHAT IT HAS BEEN 'PROGRAMMED' TO DO BY ITS MASTER...AND UNFORTUNATELY, WE OFTEN DO NOT AGREE WITH MANY OF ITS ACTIONS AT ALL. AND THAT'S WHERE THE OPPOSITION LIES UNTIL WE, AT LAST, FOLLOW THE WISDOM OF YOUR LAST STANZA AND GIVE UP THE FIGHT...PATIENTLY WAITING, WHILE IT HAS IT'S INEVITABLE WAY. VERY WELL DONE, THANK YOU. Ehh . . . Destiny is there whether or not it is "our" destiny, or someones else's, if we blunder into it, we reap whatever others have sown. So be careful where you trod and how you treat people. Just saying . . .

Destiny, like karma, justice and fate, is not always kind. But I have found that those people who live by way of treating other people badly, tend to have short lives that are brutal to them near the end. Much better to keep an even keel when it comes to the ups and downs of life. And continue to treat others like you would like to be treated, so that when the downtimes come, and they will, that you are prepared and have someone who will help you like you have helped others.
