-- Empty and Full -–

John Herlihy

When the glass is empty,

Then the glass can be full.

When people are empty,

Then the world never full.

When a promise is empty,

Then the lie can be full.

When all hope is empty,

Then despair can be full.

When all noise is empty,

Then silence can be full.

When hearing is empty

Then to listen can be full

When to taste is empty

Then to touch can be full

When the mind is empty,

Then the heart can be full.

When the heart is empty,

Then the mind can be full.

When the body is empty,

Then the soul can be full.

When darkness is empty

Then the light can be full

When sadness is empty,

Then happiness can be full.

Beware of what is empty,

Take note of what is full.

Nothing left when empty,

Everything left when full.

A FINE WORK EXEMPLIFYING THE BENEFITS OF BEING BOTH EMPTY AND FULL, TO WHICH WE ALL CAN READILY RELATE. THANKS FOR THE SHARE. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

A difficult balance of word play. A bit of which I found disconcerting because of the matching, not the intent. The poem does not reflect the image with the often used metaphor of whether or not a person's viewpoint upon viewing the glass determines that the glass is half full (positive) or that the glasses half empty (negative). In your poem there was no half of anything. It seemed to be, all or nothing. One of the good ones that I liked was, When noise is empty, silence is full.

Every single verse is wonderful and gives the reader a view from both sides. You have been weaving your magic, John!

Love ya!

Jane

Say Something Terrorible v3 by RickthePoetWarrior

My mom says ‘If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything’. Sorry mom but under the guise of poetic license I penned these beauties.
