-- Blue Moon -–
John Herlihy
The blood-red moon aglow in autumn wonder,
Dripping from its scimitar our hearts to plunder.
The bone-white moon with its cratered face,
Moonlight spread across the pond in misty grace.
The full moon on the horizon fanning its orange flame,
A full moon cannot escape, everyone knows its name.
Forget not the new moon, unseen, draped in black,
Hidden from earth once a month in its lunar sack.
A yellow moon may lift its head amid stars as a daisy,
As we lay there in summer doldrums just feeling lazy.
Ah, then the blue moon that occurs but once a year,
The thirteenth moon whose magic may produce a tear.
We have a betrayer on our hands if the moon is blue,
With two moons in a single month, which one is true ?
