John Herlihy

My rebellious soul will not accept defeat;

I will walk to the horizon my Maker to meet.

Sit with my heart in my hands on the edge,

Sit there in faithfulness as I make my pledge.

I have passed thru the valley and met extremes,

Experienced hardship but know not what it means.

I have wandered Arabian deserts as a traveler lost,

Survived the scourge of inner thirst at incredible cost

I crossed turgid rivers to get safely to the other side;

I have preserved sacred vows that I needed to hide.

Crossed many a bridge to avoid disasters below,

Under moonlit skies when all the night was aglow.

I have climbed thru forests unto mountain peaks,

In search of true meaning in what my heart seeks.

The journey seems endless, the road never finished,

My heart still beats, the struggle never diminished.
