-- A SENSE OF WONDER --

The wisdom of children lies in their sense of wonder;

Their innocence allows no one to steal their thunder.

They catch the grasshopper then allow it to take wing;

They catch fireflies, put them in jars, listen to them sing.

When affronted, they cry real tears and then easily forget;

They harbor no illusions, have no worries and feel no regret.

Consider the infant, with eyes opened wide, everything new;

They taste, they touch, they scowl, they smile and cry and coo.

If ever I questioned the sense of wonder, they know what it is;

They take nothing for granted while I consider everything fizz.

Unless you become like little children, the beloved Bible says;

You cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven, cannot become His.

Give me a sense of wonder, to become once again as a child;

To find a child in the old man, to return to an innocence wild.
