-- MOODY BLUES --

By John Herlihy

We all succumb at some point in time to moody blues,

Even our dreams may turn to nightmares as we snooze.

Our moods turn with the force of a turning kaleidoscope,

One moment soaring high, the next at the end of a rope.

Even my happiness can sometimes make me feel sad.

What right do I have to be feeling like this, so very glad?

Our sorrows did deep as our happiness may induce guilt;

Clear waters now run muddy as my life fills up with silt.

The sun is shining ever so brightly so why do I feel regret;

The moon and stars in the night glisten to help me forget.

These moods do feel like ghosts fallen in my soul haunted;

They come and go as they like as I on my path sauntered.

I have come to accept the fickleness of these moody blues;

Whether in rain or shine, I can deal with them as I choose.

BEING HUMAN IS A REALITY THE MANY HUMANS(AND I DO HAVE MY MOMENTS)CANNOT DEAL WITH POSITIVELY. I CAN'T HANDLE BEING DOWN TOO LONG, THANK GOD...HE LIFTS ME UP. OTHERWISE, I'D 'STAY' IN THE BLUE MOODY VALLEY...24/7. GREAT SHARE, ENJOYED. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Your words tell the reader about the blues, a bad mood, down, and it is quite a struggle to crawl out of that hole. Seek help. It really does the trick. Feel better, hon!

Jane

Dealing with them is the key. Absolutely. When I was younger my moods went up and down like a rollercoaster. Not so much anymore. The worst moods, weird thoughts and images, seem to drift through me as I'm waking up. Thankfully that only happens every so often. A revealing insight into the writer. Thanks for sharing. Peace… r

I am bipolar so I know all about "moody blues." Luckily mine is usually controlled with medication, though it sometimes breaks through. Still, and happily, it's no where near as intense as it once was. I chose to deal with it by both accepting its presence and fighting back against the hold it had on me and my life. The person who diagnosed me said, its the price of being a creative. A price I've learned to pay without losing my soul.

Next time you get those moody blues, I recommend playing some Moody Blues. They'll bring you right out of any funk you're in.

Too few seniors relax enough to admit the paradox of blues, especially, as you say, "...our happiness may induce guilt." Would that more would express their moody blues, be it writing, finger painting, or attempt to hum a new melody. Life doesn't end until the end. Kudos.
