-- The Miracle of Haze --

John Herlihy

I live with my poems

And they live with me.

They come to me one by one,

In shadows and light, a tree spun.

One moment they are not there,

They have still not yet been born.

Then they arrive with all their flare,

As if from some mystery torn.

When I awaken in the morning,

I haven’t got the faintest clue.

Sure, the glorious day is dawning,

As the sky deepens into cobalt blue.

I imagine, wonder, probe, inwardly gaze,

The poem is born in the miracle of haze.

If I don't write something down immediately I just lose the story in not so much a haze, but very definitely of my brain, a maze...-e-

...and then I presume it writes itself. You probably start with a word, then the magic of your fingers to keyboard dance the dance that has been waiting for permission. Wonderful, simple, testimony of a poet.

Usually my poems come to me in a flash, and if I don't write something down at that time, they will disappear in a haze. However you get yours is just fine with me. Keep 'em coming my poet friend.

I've often said that I don't write my poetry and prose so much as "download" them. Glad to read that someone besides me does the same!
