-- Dark Thoughts --

John Herlihy

As never before,

I am now filled with dark thoughts.

No one knows what’s in store,

As this sinister virus its errant course plots.

No one ever imagined,

How the entire globe so mercilessly affected.

No one ever fathomed,

We would be living in lockdown, never suspected.

Millions sick, lives lost in ways profound,

Schools closed, sports cancelled, streets empty of sound.

A lone individual stands in a city plaza upon a star,

As pigeons roams idly, wondering where all the people are.

Yet, in dark thought, light emerges,

A silver lining kills the shadows of our pensive urges.

The day will come, we live again, the end is near,

There in the trees, the wind of change blows away our fear.

The silver lining escapes me whenever I go looking for it... but I am sure that one day I will catch it..

Yes, it is a very strange time indeed. We may actually go into a worldwide depression that will take a couple of years to come out of once we have a viable vaccine that will be available to everyone. In the meantime a lot of time on our hands and think about what we've been doing and what we should be doing differently.

For those personally affected with a loved one very sick or dying, it is much worse than even the harsh reality of not having any money or even a way to borrow it.

I am also searching for the silver lining. For a pessimist, it is a tough chore.

A wonderful message of hope. I was just talking with a friend earlier about how every plague in history has had a beginning, a middle, and an end. We are in the middle so the end lies somewhere ahead, and there can be no doubt that there will be an end to it. We just have to hang tough until we get there.
