-- A Drop in an Ocean --
John Herlihy
What value our lives,
But a thin thread remembered.
At what cost he/she survives,
Without each of us being tempered.
Our lives may be mere thread,
Thin threads to make a thick tapestry.
A tale worth being read,
Each of us being a unique mystery.
Life itself an ocean,
We but drops soon forgotten.
We sip its meagre potion,
Before beginning to decay as rotten.
Life may be an ocean,
That exists only because of the drops.
Indeed, we the magic potion,
That flows onward until this life stops.
We are breaths of breeze,
In a wind that can stir ocean waves.
We breathe in/out with ease,
Living individual moments in finite days.
We are breaths of spirit,
That gather into a global wind.
Each of us has merit,
To fuel the storm of solar wind.
What is the whole,
Without piecing together singular parts?
What is the soul,
Without the beating of individual hearts?
