-- Sleeping --

John Herlihy

Sleeping gives a unique chance to disappear,

In shadowed realms of enchantment as dear.

We muddle thru the wakefulness of our lives,

Dealing with a multitude of things we despise.

But God’s design (and mercy) allows us to rest,

To enter unknown realms as His invited guest.

Vanished into midnight hours in a little death,

Body surrendered, only a presence of soul left.

Behold the face of a sleeping infant so beatific,

In peaceful repose, true innocence, its aura lyric.

Often, faces during night may appear troubled,

The eyes flutter, ears twitch, the voice mumbled.

All the while, lost in slumber, as the earth turns,

The body rests, the mind relaxes, the soul yearns.

Yes, John! There is nothing more beautiful than watching a baby sleeping and wondering what they might be dreaming about. As for myself, when I take Valerian, I'm off to the races with dreams! 'Love this poem, hon!!

Love ya!

In my sleep state I am most receptive of healing energies of both body and mind. With my defenses down I am open to any number of things in my sleep, especially the mental "workshops" that we call dreams. Everything from those strange, disjointed dreams that make no sense at all (I call those "Picasso" dreams), to dreams that are obviously the mind working out a problem, to dreams that have a way of foretelling things. I even dream whole stories, even books, that if I could only capture I'm sure would be best sellers! In the end I think we are at our most honest in our sleep for only then can we not hide from ourselves let alone the rest of the world.

I think sleep is so important, its when we are able to regenerate fom the worries of the day, halas these days it eludes many a person. Thank you for sharing such a peaceful poem John, Be well xo
