DAYTIME THOUGHTS

____________________________________

John Herlihy

Our daytime thoughts,

Nurture everyday feelings.

Everything seen in clear light,

The literal world in our sight.

Day after day standing in rows,

What will happen nobody knows.

Heart aflutter with little fears,

Memories falling as little tears.

In the cool of the afternoon,

Daily affairs swept by a broom.

Nostalgia on his aging face,

Doubt taking surety’s place.

Twilight’s essence brings,

The day’s end of things.

NIGHTIME FEELINGS

___________________________________

John Herlihy

Night’s dark essence brings,

A shadowy beginning of things.

The night now moonlit grey,

No ordinary words to say.

Feelings reduced to a whisper,

Dreaming dreams of a drifter.

Light as a feather you and I,

You a murmur, me a sigh.

Holding her in caress awake,

With no desire to escape.

She herself wanted to stay,

Just kissing her breath away.

We reappear in daytime thoughts,

We disappear in nighttime feelings.

I too like you feel many little fears but by night I try and close up the world and enter into a dimension where I an calm my spirit, be it with a good book, or music that makes me fly. Either way, we do what we can to keep the sanity. Love your real poetry, today xo

All living creatures use nighttime and daytime to their advantage in order to survive. In recent years, the value of sleeping, and dreaming, is becoming more apparent and more needed for a healthy life.

I wouldn't say that my days and nights are like your poem. But throughout our lives, we each develop a routine that we use during the night and during the day. Good or bad, it's how we play.

For example, last night, out of the blue with no seeming relation to any other thing that I know of, I got an idea for a story that will be written, thanks to a couple of hours of sleeplessness where I perfected the storyline.

I find there is a certain sensitivity to these poems, especially Nighttime Feelings. There's a reason I am most creatively active in the dead of night. That is when I am most emotional yet most at peace. I love the night.

We may live on different hemispheres but day and night still have their similarities in life around the world. Amen

Here, you've penned a focus on the perfection of dichotomy in Nature that is often taken for granted. Your words remind us of how interdependent the night and day are is rendering a wholeness to our existence. Well done.
