-- Eternal Reply --

John Herlihy

Although I wander far and wide,

In circular orbit will I ever abide.

With enduring patience, I forebear,

Falling in a bottomless well of despair.

We think we move in straight lines,

A yearning heart knows better the times.

Around and around and around, we go,

Our destination drags our origin in tow.

What is end with no proverbial beginning,

With destiny there on the sidelines grinning.

All the heavenly bodies in their orbits regale,

The earth, moon, and stars all tell their tale.

“How lovely,” they say, as some angels fly by.

All things circle in orbit is their eternal reply.

WELL DONE! THIS REMINDS ME OF GOD'S PEOPLE WHO WONDERED IN THE DESERT...ROUND AND AROUND...FOR 40 YEARS BEFORE REACHING THE PROMISED LAND. GOD SET THEIR PATH THAT WAY AND A LOT OF WEANING AND GROWTH WAS DONE. GOD HAS SET OUR PATH HERE ON THIS PLANET THE SAME...ROUND AND AROUND WE GO...UNTIL WE'RE READY TO ENTER THE PROMISED LAND. ENJOYED, THANKS. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

The circle is much more organic that the straight line. The only truly straight lines that I know of are man engineered.

The circular wonder of the cosmos never ceases to stoke my imagination, especially when one focuses, as you have here, on the return again and again to those experiences in reflection that stay with us, regardless of age or diminishing cognitive ability. Fortunately, like me, you're not even close to the debilitating effects of growing older. Stay with it, whatever you're doing, for it surely is treating you well to be able to continually wordsmith such eloquence.

This book represents a thirty-day period of my poetry journal. Each poem addresses the dominant thoughts occupying my mind during the early morning hours of a given day.
