-- My Love Unspoken --

John Herlihy

My love will never be spoken in words;

But rather takes flight amid the flutter of birds.

It’s Friday morning and the sun streams in;

Another day has arrived, on my face a grin.

Not another day, but the day of departure;

With me all bundled up like a tightened suture.

Give me a destination and I am ready to go;

Any destination will do, even a place I don’t know.

As I take my leave, our love goes with me;

You will be there with me in whatever I see.

Your absence is presence, your minutes my time,

Our hearts filled with emotions that feel sublime.

Farewell can never be farewell whenever I go;

You are there within me as I greet you, hello.

-- Her Love Spoken --

John Herlihy

Who ever knew such sorrow could feel like bliss?

Deep emotions of love I would otherwise miss.

It’s Thursday evening and moonlight streams in;

Another day has departed, my head swirls in a spin.

Not just another day, but his day of departure.

I feel all bundled up into the knots of a suture.

When he takes his leave, I am not sure where to go.

With him suddenly gone, I am not sure what I know.

With him finally gone, I begin to realize what I see.

That he is there with me, wherever he may be.

His absence is but presence, his minutes our time.

Our hearts filled with emotion that just feel sublime.

Farewell but a chance for my deep love to be spoken.

My heart now filled to the brim never to be broken.

Two beautiful poetic expressions of professed love.

I can see this written last December. Perhaps there is a reason why you waited so long to reveal it to us. The first poem speaks of joy in entering into adventure, while the second poem speaks of the anxiety of the unknown. Will departing mean never coming back?

I know a lady for which that second poem fits so very well.

A beautifully rendered sentiment from two points of view. To travel and have that sense of being love is rare. Hold tight.
