-- Beneath the Surface --
John Herlihy
Under the surface lies the mystery of things,
As invisible wind uplifting the feathers of wings.
We live on the surface; seldom enter the depths,
Deep in the inner sanctum where life forgets.
All the many tribulations that only lie skin deep,
Sorrows washed away by tears when we weep.
A sweet taste, not the smell, of honey inspires,
All of our senses fill us with their holy desires.
Beneath the ocean wave lies surging currents,
That ebb and flow in calm or raging torrents.
Under Heaven’s dome lies the illusion of sky blue,
Inspiring us with all the temptations we ever knew.
A secret world of mystery waits to be unveiled,
Silent wind holding its breath at the world veiled.
