-- The Miracle of Heaven’s Shore -–
John Herlihy
At the end of the ocean lies Heaven’s shore,
At the end of the road our fervent hearts implore.
The land spreads wide only to melt into the sky,
Life greets us as a stranger, in a world only to die.
I once had a name, but now with a name no longer,
No one will remember my name, ever to ponder.
My old body poured into the seams of the earth’s soul,
An old soul on an unknown journey, innerly told.
The aftermath of my sojourn leaves a simple path behind,
The footsteps will soon blow away in the wind of my mind.
My boat steadfastly parts the waters on the River Styx,
Soaked, seamed and waterlogged, no longer able to fix.
I left at sunset, but the night journey promises much more,
There, under dawn’s light, the miracle of Heaven’s shore.
