Annoying can be

The harsh brightness of light.

Comforting can be

The gentle darkness of the night.

We get caught up

In the frantic rush of the day.

Whereas night offers

The quiet peace of another way.

No one questions

The right of the day to its light.

No one answers

The darkness of the night and its right.

Even light itself

Will take comfort in its shadow.

The dark mix of color

Gives shading to the moon’s crescent bow.

Too much light,

And I may suffer feelings of distain.

Too little light,

And these feelings no longer remain.

As in all things,

The much-loved light has a dark side

In its merciful shade,

I am more likely to comfortably reside
