-- Waiting for Day to Arrive --
John Herlihy
We take in the day, know what it is,
Sun shines brightly, go on our business.
But there is something about the night,
Something we can’t put our finger on.
Sundown comes upon us sure enough,
Even if the summer sun takes its time.
Or the winter sun never time enough,
Soon, the day’s slate will be wiped clean.
Our faithful North Star, shining down,
Sign of good will if there ever was one.
Then, the old man moon climbing slow,
Up over the horizon, still hanging low.
I do love the way the full moon marches,
Descent of the sun as the moon ascends.
Rose with the light of the sun on its face,
And those stars, who would have thought.
Light years away, yet they still appear,
And here we are, sitting here far below.
Thinking and wondering and imagining,
Finally sleeping, waiting for day to arrive.
