-- Silence Within --

John Herlihy

In hearing silence

He paid attention

Awash in inner calm

His silence his balm

His days filled with it

Nights upon nights of it

The silence of no friend

The silence of the end

Silence to become profound

Silence when no one around

Silence in the brief dawn

Silence can be long drawn

The silence of the smile

The silence of the heart

Silence of the cat’s tread

Silence found in dread

Silence has no beginning

Silence has no ending

Silence a bottomless well

Silence a limitless spell

Silence lives in the face

Silence of hands that touch

Silence heard in the wind

Silence seen in the wave

Silence awakened him

Until silence entered him.

There seems to be a compulsion in recent
times to have noise to distract
from just about everything...
and yet in silence..
‘Awash in inner calm,
His silence his balm’
Silence can be just what is required,
Comforting, stilling...silently
speaking a thousand words...
Another masterpiece John...

The poet is not quite silent yet. As I read, once again thinking of the famous Paul Simon song, The Sound of Silence, I thought of something else. Hearing loss. As I gradually lose my hearing like my mother did, there may be time, without hearing aids, that I won't hear even the loudest sound of thunder. A silence that I expect every night before I go to bed, but one that will certainly mess with my head.

In my experience, silence speaks when words can't. And isn't it wonderful, those rare times when your mind and spirit are so silent you can hear snow fall. Silence (also in my experiences) nourishes wisdom, and stimulates the creative mind. By my count, you used 'silence' 22 times in the body of this poem. Could be a world record. (-: Enjoyed. rlc

Another example of vibratory synergy reaching across the globe. I just posted a poem on silence myself. Your's sparks more of a personal tone, where mine addresses the environment more than the personal. You certainly tapped into a growing problem, given the scramble for cover our brains attempt to do with all the noise in the world.

Still Living on my Feet by Tichaona Chinyelu

Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
