-- One Eternal Moment --
John Herlihy
We always endeavor to hold on and never let go,
Experience informs us, still much we don’t know.
We wouldn’t much like it if our lives were static,
Sameness would bore us, longing for the erratic.
The day knows to take leave, so does the night,
Time stops for no one, earth’s orbit always right.
The trees settle down, but wait for gentle wind,
At sunrise, flower buds open, all the day to grin.
Climb the top of the mountain to see the world,
Swim thru rhythms of ocean into depths hurled.
What would be the one thing we could capture,
The one eternal moment to fill us with rapture.
The night and the day, they may come and go,
Souls rely on the one thing we need to know.
