-- What Is This Love So Fleeting --
John Herlihy
What is this love so fleeting,
Of which we daringly speak?
Wings of a dove in greeting,
In its perfume, we feel weak.
A glowing candle, oh so brief,
Burning hotly down the wick.
A gentle breeze, a falling leaf,
Left behind but a candlestick
Is love but a terrible need?
Our fear of being left alone.
The basis on which we breed,
To slip away as a rolling stone.
Will another love take its place?
Even if it does, I still see her face.
