-- Inner Light -–
John Herlihy
I see,
With the glow of an inner light.
I see,
What nobody else can see.
I see,
But nobody truly sees me.
I see,
Them looking, but not seeing me.
I touch,
With the light of a celestial wand.
I touch,
But not everyone moves to respond.
I touch,
But am seldom touched in return.
I touch,
And in touching my heart may still burn.
I listen,
And all the music of the world I hear.
I listen,
And hear echoes from the celestial sphere.
I listen,
Filled to the brim with every single note.
I listen,
Everything sounds unique, nothing by rote.
I taste,
Earthly delights fill me to the brim.
I taste,
Nature speaks to me no falsehood or whim.
I taste,
And in tasting I have finally come to know.
I taste,
from whence sunrise, from whence wind may blow.
I smell,
All the perfumes in the earthly bower.
I smell,
Life’s elixir in deep wells and lofty tower.
I smell,
Earth odors rich in resin, rainwater, and pine.
I smell,
The scent of eternity in the forward motion of time.
I think,
Because the Almighty has given me a mind.
I think,
Thoughts that are unique to me of their kind.
I think,
With reason through the labyrinth of doubt.
I think,
With imagination into the well of certainty.
I feel,
All the sorrows that flow within my destiny.
I feel,
All the happiness that fills me with its mystery.
I feel,
That everything will turn out right in the end.
I feel,
That all multiplicity in the Divine Unity will blend.
As humans,
We have five senses through which we come to know.
As humans,
We experience the four seasons to nurture and grow.
As humans,
Our knowledge and insight lead us as we search and find.
As humans,
Our free will and surrender open the door to God’s Mind.
