-- Light of Divine Unity --
John Herlihy
From the heart of the universe
Streams the source of all light.
Celestial rivers of light stream
As spiral promenades of galaxies.
Within these spiraling processions
Floats the esplanade of the Milky Way.
This galactic celestial avenue
Spirals brimming with billions of stars.
These multiple billions of stars
Represent illuminating suns.
In these illuminated suns
Floats earth’s own beloved sun.
This individual sun – our sun
Sheds the energy of its light in space.
This blessed light of our sun reflects
Its pale powdery light on the moon.
From the pale face of the moon
The sun’s light streams down on our earth.
The borrowed light of the moon
Shines its winter-white glow into earth’s night.
in the depths of the night
lies a lake in moonlight.
The placid lake reflects
The moon’s reflected, alas stolen, sunlight.
During the night, by the lake, I stand.
The glow of the moon caught by my eye.
My eye, the eye of the sun in its galaxy,
The eye in the heart of the Milky Way.
The eye in the heart of the galactic vortex,
In the eye of the central universal maelstrom.
That swarms around the soul of the celestial eye,
One vision, one reality, one love, one Divine Unity.

And, of course as one looks at distant galaxies, their internal spirals tend to glow with so many stars so close together. One might call it light pollution. Like when I looked down from the space photograph of the earth and see how our artificial light has changed the night and the patterns of all creatures, including us when we have light in the sky over our heads throughout the night.
