-- When the Old Gives Way to the New –

John Herlihy

When the old world begins to lose its way,

A new world blessedly appears,

To reveal its sublime wonders.

Where the old trodden trails

Dwindle down into dust,

New trails emerge for us to explore.

When the old hopes fade

Into the evening mist,

New hopes are born in the dawn mist.

When the old words

Blend into the whispers of the wind,

New words are given breath to sound.

When the old songs

Die as echoes into the past,

New melodies pour forth to hearts uplift.

When the old pristine air

Turns to polluted smoke and dust,

New ways to clean the air must be found.

We think we know all the old ways,

But what we know of those ways

May no longer be worth knowing.

We don’t rightly know

What all the birds at dawn sing,

Yet dawn brightens with the music they bring.

We don’t rightly know,

What the winds are whispering,

Yet hear it we do, enriched by listening.

Life’s mysteries make themselves known,

But we pay little to no attention to them,

Yet new mysteries still there to pay attention to.

Tomorrow whispers the future,

But its messages we cannot hear,

Yet arrival of destiny we listen to and bear.

LET US LISTEN CLOSELY AND CAREFULLY TO OUR ANCIENT GOD, WHO DOES NOT CHANGE. WISELY, LET'S NOT FORGET THAT IT IS THE PRINCIPLES OF THE OLD 'FOUNDATIONS'(JER 6:16) UPON WHICH THE NEW IS 'SOLIDLY' BUILT, AMEN. IN OTHER WORDS; IN 'GIVING WAY TO THE NEW' LET US NOT DISCARD OUR 'BEGINNINGS'...FOR, 'BOTH' ARE ALWAYS NEEDED. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE,BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS.

A ponderable dilemma we face as a species: what to hold onto...what to retire having learned all there is from that experience. Too many people never know when to park the old baggage, always trying to make others who have discarded the used-up-focus of attention feel like traitors to the traditional malaise of hoarding all makes of things, thoughts, emotions, et al. "We think we know all the old ways,

But what we know of those ways

May no longer be worth knowing." says it all.

"New trails, new hopes, new words, new melodies"... Amen. As the chaos across the globe, and in America, continues to escalate, your words offer the reader a 'new mindset'. However long it lasts, it does bring joy to see light ahead of us. Fine thoughts John. Peace.... rlc

Nature adapts to the condition that any part of life presents. Humans are the most adaptive organisms on the planet. But we are hardheaded and spiteful, often making the wrong decisions in order to succeed or advance our families and friends.

One thing is true, nature will continue to adapt and renew long after we are gone.
