-- Every Baby Born --

John Herlihy

Every baby it has been told,

A few thousand years old.

Akin to the rivers and trees,

Siblings to the birds and bees.

Their destiny is not yet spent,

Their span of life not yet meant.

They breathe what winds blow,

They know what animals know.

Their first breath an exultant cry,

Their first whisper a faint sigh.

Instinct teaches them of love,

Their tiny bodies fit like a glove.

A glorious world is here for her,

Her tender heart begins to stir.

Sheer innocence informs his face,

New member of the human race.

Their ageless arrival defies all time,

Their soul a thing of beauty, divine.

Babies don't have a hateful bone in their bodies. They just love to experience the great big world around them and sleep easily once they've had some food. Your poem gives birth to every aspect of what it means be a newborn in this world.

If only more adults would acknowledge these attributes and accept they never die and that throughout our lives, we are predisposed to utilizing these simple traits of principles as Nature's gift to us. Thanks for posting the reminder.
