-- Dreams That Come True –

John Herlihy

Many of our dreams come and go;

A few of our dreams linger as true .

Many of our dreams never to know;

Some of our dreams I always knew.

I dream that we look at each other,

As we look at stars, moon and sun.

To be united as sister and brother;

In battles fought, together we won.

We gaze on stars and moon in awe;

Their mystery never ceases us to fill.

Dealing with others we follow no law;

When it suits us, we behave as cruel.

I dream we consider all with respect;

We admire the beauty of the butterfly.

We shun others rather than protect;

Oh so smart, we do things on the sly.

We do things in the name of the ego,

When we the selfless person admire.

We go thru life as if we were in limbo,

Seeking all the while to be an esquire.

We do nil for those in dire straights,

Better that others not us are helpless.

Damnation can be for he who waits,

If the sum of one’s life is worthless.

Our love should not get in the way,

Of being the kind of person we are.

In our dreams, we never do say nay;

Bright light emitted thru a door ajar.

Most people seek light over darkness;

Even in darkness, they seek the light.

Seen in the soul of the eyes, a stillness,

Peace thru the day and thru the night.

May all our dreams turn into realities;

Otherwise, they remain always hidden.

The gale dreams of becoming a breeze;

If a breeze arrives, it comes unbidden.

I LEAVE SUCH THINGS AS DREAMS IN THE HANDS OF GOD. AS HIS WORD SAYS...WE DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO PRAY FOR...THE HOLY SPIRIT MAKES INTERCESSION FOR US. SO, FOR ME IT GOES LIKE THIS; THIS IS WHAT I'D LIKE, BUT WHAT DO YOU THINK, OH GOD...MY LIFE IS IN YOUR HANDS. AMEN. THANKS FOR SHARING, JOHN. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

The "we" in a couple of your verses got my attention, as if you're speaking for a certain half-blind subset of humanity. I believe, as Henry David Thoreau posited that: "dreams are the touchstones of our character." An interesting piece John. r

You cover a broad range of human behavior in this poem. Certainly all of the bad traits we possess. We are all guilty one way or another. But we must strive to be open, to be good, helpful and courteous, especially to those less fortunate.

Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,
