The future is always the future,
Always embedded within tomorrow.
There in the distance always beckoning,
Always about to pounce in its reckoning.
Similarly, the future never actually arrives,
Today can never claim to be tomorrow.
The promise of the future ready to survive,
Its expectations confront us as if on borrow.
We can never be late for the future,
Nor is the future itself late to arrive.
When the future does come upon us,
It is another day that is newly contrived.
The future will always be the day before,
Today will always be present forevermore.

I like considering the future, especially in my science-fiction stories and novels. Some of my predictions have already come true. But if she unexpected things, like the pandemic and the brutal Russian attack on Ukraine, that keep us wondering if we have any protection from the future at all. I still think it's better to prepare, especially when science tells you what's happening like overpopulation and global warming. We can act to prevent those, if we have the will and understanding.
