-- Too Much Wisdom --
John Herlihy
Some people, even children, wise for their years,
Too wise, it could be said, thru sweat and tears.
Danger for innocents too much wisdom to own,
The evil doers among us far more deadly prone.
Their wisdom may fall upon deaf ears as dry ash,
Insights offered deaf ears may vanish in a flash.
Too much wisdom can turn a person into prey,
The sage insights they have lead to areas grey.
To be silent when others have too much to offer,
To know things that get them thrown in a coffer.
A wisdom that enlightens leaves a person exposed,
Revealing to them truths that others were opposed.
Better for the wise one to keep silent and play dumb,
Rather than being easily within reach as a ripe plumb.
If you feel privy to occasional wisdom, let no one know,
A person seemingly a friend may turn into a deadly foe.
