-- Departure –

John Herlihy

Departure

A question unfolds, breaks apart

The answer lies in each separate heart

Departure

Fledgling birds stand at the brink

Only dare to fly, never to sink

Departure

The journey now begun

From intrigue and mystery spun

Departure

The destination unknown

The wind travels where blown

Departure

Every day a new beginning

Daylight the night dimming

Departure

The river born in a glacial spring

Ever growing ripples that sing

Departure

In leave-taking, someone behind

Echoes of farewell linger in the mind

Departure

Of so many things we take our leave

When the sun sets, even the day doth grieve

Departure

Journey into the unknown a thrill

The first step taken as an act of will

Departure

Life eventually ends, a sudden fracture

No one knows the hour of departure

Departure

Into the mystical journey of love

In the spirit of the air flies a dove

JUST THINKING...LOOKING AT THIS THING FROM EVERY ASPECT WHETHER PHYSICAL, SPIRITUAL OR OTHERWISE, I ASK MYSELF THE QUESTION; THROUGHOUT MY LIFE, HOW MANY 'DEPARTURES' HAVE I EXECUTED? YET, NONE OF THEM CAN HOLD A CANDLE TO THAT FINAL DEPARTURE...WHICH WE ALL MUST MAKE SOME DAY. GREAT STYLE, POET...ENJOYED!LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

We live in a world of continuous departures…
experiencing many mini grievings
whilst hardly noticing…

The one in my life that stands out for me was my very ill
husband telling our children, he wasn’t sure if the
Sun would rise for him in the morning…
That was one big wake up call regarding Departures…

I know more about departures than arrivals thanks to growing up in the military. But I learned early on that each departure was a chance for adventure and meeting new people.

While we experience many departures as you have noted so well. It is the ultimate departure that intrigues so many. Why I am hurrying up and trying to get my messy life back in order for my soon departure from this mortal earth.

Thankfully with no need or want for anything on the other side except that my elements and compounds be well used and recycled often.

My mom says ‘If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything’. Sorry mom but under the guise of poetic license I penned these beauties.
