I have found that when science and the scientific method are applied to specific hypotheses, the why is revealed and published for all to learn from it. I have also found that common sense, generally the result of similar peoples' view on a particular idea, is often wrong and easily proven wrong by science.

Unfortunately, science has given us technologies that often can be used for good or bad, and, often, for both. For example, dropping two atom bombs on the industrial cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima was a good thing for both countries. Ending World War II decisively and saving countless Japanese and American soldiers in a land invasion. But for the hapless occupants of those two cities, the horror was unmentionable and for the survivors, lived on in agony for lost loved ones and cancers caused by mutations from exposure to radiation.

Wisdom would require removal of all nuclear weapons. Unfortunately, some of the worst countries in the world with unstable leadership, continue to make them as in a race to the apocalypse.
