-- Forsaken –
John Herlihy
Inevitable in our lives that we are often mistaken,
How dreadful in our lives when we feel forsaken.
Without any mercy, without a hope, only despair,
In vanity of earthly affairs, no succor, only prayer.
In spite of valiant efforts, I sometimes feel forsaken,
Of all the roads of destiny, I have this road taken.
I cry out silently in my heart: Has anyone listened?
In the two portals to mind, tearful eyes glistened.
Faint mercy, indeed, we know not what life entails,
To God we must turn, when all else in our life fails.
The only certainty lies in unfathomable uncertainty,
Amid all the knowns we enjoy lies eternal mystery.
This feeling of being forsaken a heavy load of grief,
The feeling of deliverance accompanies divine relief.
