-- We Sleep But Do We Awaken –
John Herlihy
We sleep, but do we awaken?
We lose hope, as if forsaken.
We believe, yet seldom remember;
Flames of love but a burning ember.
We promise, but do we promises keep?
We trust, but thru cracks, doubts seep.
We pray, the one true moment intimate?
Our body grounded, the soul flies infinite.
We often forget the one thing needful;
Memory escapes the one thing heedful.
Illusions seizes with their tempting fantasy;
The reality eludes us because of its mystery.
How the flower blooms we never know;
We plant the seed and then watch it grow.
In the flower’s heart, soft voices beckon;
The butterfly responds without any reckon.
The dawn turns into the day until it ends;
The tree stands tall, reaching, until it bends.
Life’s mystery questions, a stalking panther;
Wherever we turn, eyes await the answer.

When I read about promises, I thought of a few that I didn't keep. But I pride myself in doing what I say I will do, so I have a good memory and conscience of the promises that I kept.
Thought should think about in your poem.

PS
I live, I fantasize, I give myself reasons to trust someone and those whom I loved and cared for, but in reality, some only care about themselves and do not give a shit about me. I have learned now to be good to myself, and care about myself more. Fortunately, there are still some who have never failed me and still treat me with respect after my husband is no longer with me.
