-- THE LANGUAGE OF HIDDEN SIGNS –
John Herlihy
Nature employs a language of hidden signs,
That stream forth as if from angelic minds.
All great secrets be those kept in clear view,
As willingly revealed as the delicacy of dew.
The language of hidden signs as plain as day,
The sun as the universal light having its way.
Its secrets kept from the unseeing, the blind,
With more shadow than light in a closed mind.
Enlightenment awaits as nature’s signs unfold,
A bud’s petals open without needing to be bold.
Yet bold it is, the affections of our heart stealing,
Bud tiptoeing into bloom sends the mind reeling.
The night vanquished in the first light of dawn,
Tiny breaths of light as seen on the first morn.
The night begins to disappear as a timid ghost,
As the sun resurrects itself as the day’s host.
The finality of the sunset as an endless encore,
We await its daily arrival in depths of our core.
When it does arrive with its myriad colors lush,
We bow our heads in silence in awe of the hush.
The order, delicacy, and intimacy forward stream,
Intricately woven together as light without a seam.
All of this from nothingness created on command,
All nature willingly responds to the Divine demand.
Why then do we call the nature of these signs hidden,
That openly steal our hearts away as if freely bidden.
Yea, many but blind to the implications of the visible,
To see only outer form, not beyond to the invisible.
Our lidded eyes feel the sweetness of a inner light,
Hidden yet visible as the moon illuminates the night.
Profound be the night with a single, twinkling star,
Yet billions of stars nightly enchant us magically afar.

I've been watching many channels revealing research in the field on many areas that you cover in this poem. Science is revealing more and more of nature's hidden secrets. It is fascinating to see how nature works.
For example, I recently learned that old growth giant trees are the matriarchs of the forest. Their spreading root systems encourage all kinds of underground life and communicate with other root systems to nourish younger trees in their presence. A whole underground communication system unseen, but vital to the forest's health. likewise, whole ecosystems thrive in the crowns of coastal redwood trees. Where they get most of their water from capturing the mist that almost daily comes in off the ocean.
