MIRROR POEMS

-- A Simple Complexity --

John Herlihy

Who would have thought,

That love could be so complex.

An emotion always over-wrought,

As demanding as a test.

Our mind’s thoughts run frantic.

Does she love me, does she not?

What could be more pedantic,

Than to tie ourselves into a knot.

Or the love turns dark and grave,

Lost in the shadows of the night.

Such fleeting love no one can save.

Whatever happened to the light?

Such simplicity need not be complex,

Take a deep breath, let love do the rest.

-- A Complex Simplicity --

John Herlihy

Who would have thought,

That love could be so simple.

An emotion never over-sought,

As enchanting as a dimple.

Our mind’s thoughts run content,

Present or absent, she is ever there.

Every smile, I know what she meant,

As my stolen heart lays itself bare.

Our love never dark and grave,

Even in shadows of the light.

An enduring love there to save,

Whatever happens day or night.

I never question this love as not,

We bound as one in a simple knot.

GREAT MIRROR, ...I ALWAYS ENJOY THESE. ON A LITE NOTE, LET ME SAY; I TELL YOU, 'IT AIN'T THAT EASY', JOHN! I THINK, IF WE COULD JUST TAKE 'SELF' OUT OF THE WAY, WITH ALL OUR HANG-UPS AND DEFENSES, 'THE COMPLEXITIES' OF LOVE WOULD BECOME SO SIMPLE! BUT THEN, THIS WOULD TAKE AWAY THE 'ADVENTURE' OF IT, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN(SMILE)? THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE,BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

The way we see love is partly due to our personality…
What is going
on in our lives, and how confident we are…
Do we see the glass half full or half empty…
Once these things are worked through…
The real love and commitment can start to shine through…
Another interesting poem John…

You are really good with these Yin and Yang poetries. You show both sides of the coin in a simple but complex context. Well done again my friend.

I think in our younger years when our hormones are raging and we are inexperienced we find love often very complex and perplexing. But I have found in my later years that by just letting things be the way they are, relaxing in the love of oneself's life and accomplishments, others will simply love us or not. No need to ponder the what if? It's either real and reciprocal or it's not.

oh my gosh, you have answered the how can it so simple when it is so complex and vice versa. i guess when it's with the right person, questions dissipate. i thoroughly enjoyed this sweet sweet piece of yours. thank you so much for writing it.

Interesting John. There are seven kinds of love. Eros. Philia. Storge. Agape. Ludus. Pragma, and Philautia. From what I've experienced, poets and writers, or people in general, are mostly preoccupied with eros (sexual love) and philautia (self-love). Thanx 4 sharing. r

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
