-- Even Eternity Has an End --

John Herlihy

Time now to no longer pretend,

Even eternity itself has an end.

Eternity the fullest extent of time,

The arc of a perfect circle sublime.

Every beginning leaves an end behind,

Every ending marks a beginning in kind.

Time but steps on the ladder to eternity,

End and beginning confirm the mystery.

We stir up notions of present and past,

With desires and regrets that never last.

We sail into the future on winds of hope,

We descend into the past on frayed rope.

We try to wrap eternity around our head,

The clock ticking, but eternity a mystery instead.

There to be found in the outer space of infinity,

Beginning and end found encircled in eternity.

IT IS ETERNITY ITSELF THAT IS ENCIRCLED, CONTAINED, KEPT, CONTROLLED BY THE ALPHA AND OMEGA, WHO IS...THE BEGINNING AND THE END. INTERESTING SUBJECT, JOHN. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

My finite human mind, already too full of useful as well as useless data, cannot conceive of the concept of eternity. It's just too large, too vast. Too unending. As such, I do not subscribe to the whole Big Bang theory, which seeks to define the beginning and edges of time itself (I've always thought it was created by someone who got frustrated because science couldn't offer an easy answer to the question of the universe's age). Eternity just is and always has been and the questions that swirl about it will never be answered. At least to everyone's satisfaction. I believe it's just too complex. Whole universes exist on different planes within Eternity and we're having enough trouble figuring out our own.

Ah, the circular boundaries showing open and closed reality. Accepting the construct of science, one is left imagining what the end looks like... this "beginning in kind." More fodder for the SciFi writers and poets of undaunted daring and imagination one can assume.
