-- Dance of the Heavens –

John Herlihy

The dance of the heavens ever a mystery to behold,

Billions of stars, one by one, their wonders unfold.

Shining down to whisper eternal mysteries into ears,

Angels listen attentively to the music of the spheres.

Those little stars hold as essence only diminished ray,

Yet they teach us of infinities without a word to say.

Starlight, thru a billion years, swallowed in darkness,

Not before entering our eyes with their peacefulness.

Stars wink at us across light-years their luminous code,

As their ancient history journeys to our earthly abode.

The light of these sun-stars also run their own course,

Serving their time before disappearing as a spent force.

Swirling galaxies themselves encircle a central vortex,

Harmony the background within this celestial context.

The rotation of the universe in tune with natural law,

Universal nature, as kindred spirit, fills hearts with awe.

Look to the stars to read a page in universal destiny,

All bespeak of graceful beauty in the realm of eternity.

I once read a description of creation as the Maker flying through the heavens and leaving behind a shimmering trail of stars and stardust. I have always loved that image.

THE LANGUAGE OF GOD...STREWN ACROSS THE HEAVENS, SPEAKS TO US IN A VOICE EACH UNDERSTANDS AND COMPREHENDS! WHAT A GRAND DANCE FROM HIS ROYAL CHAMBERS THAT SPARKLES AND BECKONS SO FULL OF PROMISES, AS IT CAPTURES US, IN EVERY WAY... IF WE WOULD ONLY...LOOK! THE IMAGERY HERE IS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL, THANK YOU, JOHN. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

A beautiful piece once again. I love the heavens and look upon it in awe. Well done my friend.

Very reverent writing about an element of nature that enchants human beings. My favorite line is “Yet they teach us of infinities without a word to say.”. Beautiful~. djl

Beautiful words John that really sum up the wonder of
The Dance of The Heavens…
The positioning of the Earth on its axis is
Miraculous in itself…certain death for us all if it was not in
this perfect position…
To look into a night sky is to perceive the ‘graceful
beauty’ you so eloquently speak of…
Let the peacefulness of the starlight continue to
enter our eyes across light years, and give the gift of celestial
wonder to many future generations…

“ But through eternal night, the twinkling of starlight
so very far away, maybe it’s only yesterday…”
( Zager and Evans…In The Year 25 25)

I'm so grateful for modern photography and telescopes that can give us the view of our universe apparently moving as our earth turns on its axis. And then, add music and the whole view becomes mesmerizing in its beauty and charm. I wonder if Galileo, seeing things no one had seen before, ever thought of what we see today.

Your poem covers everything including the atmospheric effect on the light from stars making them seem like they blink on and off. And the fact that the light we receive from most stars started its journey so long ago that we are even approaching looking at the start of the universe over 11 billion years ago just reaching us today. Finally, the recent proof that at the center of every galaxy is a huge black hole devouring stars like snacks. And where they go, we do not know.

How intriguing, this picturing of eternity among the layer upon layer of the universe. So much indeed to be thankful for in the preparation of mortality's end and to find in death the light of the next iteration of existence.
