-- Fear --
John Herlihy
What is fear but a state of mind,
The dreaded emotion feels unkind.
The dark, mysterious world of fear,
Glaring eyes of the forest panther.
Creeps inside upon its silent paws,
Follows no rules, no certain laws.
As the arrival of an uninvited guest,
Fanning the flames, put to the test.
If courage be beauty, fear the beast,
Satanic shadows be freely released.
Arousing within, fear and loathing,
Another voice heartlessly gloating.
Fear lies silently below the surface,
Draining away all positive purpose.
Children fear the dark, adults light,
To tremble when in the spotlight.
Fear is an unreality seemingly real,
Within the mind, serenity to steal.
What sorrow in the drop of a tear,
What loneliness found in our fear.

cracked up to be, we do have control on how much power we give it.
Very insightful John, be well :)
I think the worst part of fear is that it “lies silently below the surface” as if it were a black panther, growling and stalking . . . always there . . . ready to pounce. Outstanding writing. Much like Poe!
