-- Noble Witness --
By John Herlihy
Do we dare to try to measure the immeasurable,
Accustomed as we are to measure the measurable?
Do we dare to attempt to think the imponderable,
Accustomed as we are to ponder the ponderable?
Snowflakes or butterflies, what’s the difference,
They both turn us humans into a noble witness.
Fireflies or dragon flies, they each take a stand,
Live as unique beings, made by the Divine Hand.
All creatures who fly with hand-painted wings,
Praise God and trust in their simple offerings.
Their waking moment promise for the new day,
Touch, blessed, as they go their appointed way.
Snowflakes and stardust offer enchantment,
Witnessing them, we know what they meant.
Gliding swans and grumpy frogs in life’s jaws,
Placid ponds in stark contrast to murky bogs.
Some live lives thru the physical world to sift,
Others live their lives hearts and souls to uplift.
Earth, sky, night all gifts tied in colored ribbons,
The answer found in the voice of easy questions.
Visionary worlds offered in a world of the blind,
Apathy and cruelty offered by a world unkind.
The measurable signals the reality of this world,
The immeasurable signals the world of the spirit.
