-- Infinity --

By John Herlihy

Whenever I wish to set my mind free,

I pack a blanket and travel to the ocean.

Upon arrival, what do I think but infinity,

My curious mind filled by a magic potion.

The luster of infinity soon turns somber,

Such massive spaces with nowhere to go.

Everywhere as nowhere special to wander,

Endless sea and sky where gentle winds blow.

There I sat on a blanket, surrounded by infinity,

Even the distant horizon but a thread to behold.

Swallowed by the vastness of this enduring mystery,

Ever present, ever alluring, a story never fully told.

As I sat lost in reverie, soon I somehow felt found,

The waves, like children’s laughter, ticked my feet.

In the silence of that infinity, I suddenly heard sound,

The lolling, crashing, rolling waves my ears to greet.

Amid this infinity suddenly grounded here and now,

The light in the cresting waves luminescent with sparkle.

Having roamed in infinity, brought back to earth somehow,

To realize. not beyond the horizon. But right here, miracle.

I now began to examine my surroundings more closely,

The rhythms of oceanic tides with their ebb and flow.

Sounding glorious harmonies as the tides surge dutifully,

Visible forces of nature with a clear message to bestow.

What is infinity but a vast realm of pure potential,

A profound emptiness waiting patiently to be filled.

A mystery reminding us of our need for the essential,

Our minds fill with possibility, our hearts finally stilled.

GOD IS...INFINITY. AND WE WILL NEVER KNOW OR UNDERSTAND HIM COMPLETELY. FOR HIS WORD SAYS...HIS THINKING/WAYS IS HIGHER THAN OURS AS THE HEAVENS IS HIGHER THAN THE SANDS. HOWEVER...WE ARE FINITE. AND WHAT A BLESSING IT IS THAT...WE ARE NO MYSTERY TO HIM. AS HE UNDERSTANDS OUR COMPLEXITIES AND NEEDS COMPLETELY, WHICH ARE OFTEN...SOOTHED...WHEN WE EXPOSE OURSELVES TO THE HEALING WHICH... NATURE... WAS CREATED TO GIVE. AMEN. GREAT POETRY HERE, THANKS, JOHN. LOVE,BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

A profound emptiness waiting patiently to be filled. How difficult it is in these infused times of too much, to empty ourselves and receive
the manna we so deeply need. Thank you for sharing your enlightened pen, and beautiful heart John :)

I'm right there on a blanket getting hypnotized........early mornings on the beach alone......."The waves, like children’s laughter,", oh, John! You got it!!

Love ya!

We all need to take in infinity once in a while to show us how small we really are in the scheme of things. I believe you written like this before, but from the perspective of the desert where the skies are clearer and infinity seems even further away.

You had me in the palm of your hand... or cast of your eyes, as I thought on my own experience similar to yours whenever I climbed and spent the night at a summit, high above the murky air that most of the world lives in. Few have the chance to gaze on the wonders of infinity, but when one has, there's no forgetting. Thanks for posting.
