-- Rain Light --
By John Herlihy
Driving along, I gave her a lift in the rain,
She sat down next to me, drenched, plain.
She thanked me happily, glowing, breathless,
As I observed more closely, I felt speechless.
Her face shone so beautiful in the rain light,
Like stars that illuminate the darkest night.
The rain glistening on the leaves all dreamy,
Her eyes all dewy and her skin all creamy.
Sitting in the closed car in hushed quiet,
While rain outside streaming down, a riot.
The atmospheric rain, like listening to drums,
As a chorus of angels in teeming clouds hums.
The fresh rain draws forth earth’s fragrance,
The rain light invokes beauty’s appearance.

You made me remember the time I was leaving the student center to go to my office and it was raining heavily. A young English instructor came to my side and offered to accompany me to my building. As we walked her aura was amazing under that umbrella together. I tried to make contact with her later but when I found out where she lived and went there, I saw the motorcycle of her lover outside.
I hope that was a true experience. Like mine. There is nothing like the rain to bring us closer together.
