-- Sunlight by Day, Darkness by Night --
by John Herlihy
Sunlight by day and darkness by night,
A cratered moon lends borrowed light.
On the horizon dawn casts night asunder,
Twilight closes a door on daylight’s wonder.
Speckled stars shining thru the plate of heaven,
Promise of light into a tapestry of shadows woven.
In the stillness of earth, gentle spring winds blow,
Shadows and light rays into the fabric of life sew.
Forever in motion, mother earth on its axis turns,
Our celestial orb doth rotate as its inner core burns.
Floating like a feather in the depths of outer space,
Attuned to universal rhythms, with harmony apace.
Small wonder we seek to replicate harmony within,
Such harmony as to wash away all the wages of sin.
Everywhere we see rhythms extending their intimacy,
We are touched by all of nature’s enduring mystery.
Celestial rhythms made manifest down upon earth,
The seasons another example with their valued worth.
Spring rains finally give way to falling autumn leaves,
Summer’s warm glow chilled by a winter that grieves.
Why do we question life’s mystery, life’s miracle,
Why do we lose faith in the face of life’s pinnacle.
Lost in the quagmire of orbiting earth here below,
Unwilling to trust in what Divine Trust may bestow.
As the earth turns, light speaks and darkness listens,
Light creates shadows, as night’s moonlight glistens.
Interaction of night and day under heaven’s awning,
Reminding who and where we are, a subtle warning.

But I would caution anyone who would think that finding an identical, or nearly identical, "little blue dot" could be expected to have the same rhythmic patterns of night and day, season and song as we have here on earth. The chances of that happening are infinitely small.
