-- Faith, My Companion --

by John Herlihy

Faith is lost

If always seeking evidence.

Faith is found

If evidence is seeking us.

Faith a process

Supporting what we believe.

Faith a process

Supporting what anyone believes.

Lost in the mind

That seeks its proof.

Found in the heart

That needs no proof.

Faith a mirage

For those who have lost their way.

Faith a miracle

For those who have found firm their way.

The faith of the damned

For those who find no proof.

Faith of the blessed

For those who need no proof.

Some search their entire lives,

Bound to a faith that never finds.

Others search their entire lives,

Bound to a faith that finds them.

Our doubts and despair

Help us to forget.

Our faith and belief

Help us to remember.

The lack of faith,

Seeing the veil as if blind.

The power of faith,

Seeing thru the veil of the blind.

A faith in the night of oblivion

Hinges on proofs in the known world.

A faith in the eternal Spirit

Hinges on proofs in a revealed world.

Faith, my companion,

In the company of lightning and thunder.

In the center of the storm,

Intimate peace, inspired wonder.

Faith only in the spirit of the world,

Faith truly in the world of the spirit.

Faith, the story of a faithful life,

Truth, the story within the story.
