-- Being Caught Off Guard -- by John Herlihy Some people don’t like being caught off guard, Being surprised makes them feel like a retard. People prefer the feeling of being in the know, To wake up in the morning always ready to go. Asked a question you haven’t the faintest clue, Wishing something said when the wind blew. A well-considered plan that goes off the rails, A heavily-weighted issue that tips the scales. Pretending to be strong when you are weak, Your rose-tinted glasses reveal a vision bleak. Yet lowering your guard can open a window, Storm clouds break apart to reveal a rainbow. Sometimes a card deck conceals a trump card, Making it worth your while to lower your guard. - - - - - - Copyright © John Herlihy Sunday 18 February 2024

I have never believed in coincidence just as I have never believed there isn't a guiding force in my life. The vast majority of the time when I'm caught off guard I find that something had been trying to get my attention for quite a while. It finally got tired of waiting and decided to catch me off guard by bopping me upside my head. And you know, many times it has been to show me the rainbow.

Sometimes removing our tinted glasses and opting for the reality with honesty, is the best we can do for ourselves and others John, thanks for this revelation, your poetry as great value.

First look was to read the captions in this editorial, highlighting Abe saying �I�m a regular Wide awake� and Breck saying �I�m too weak to get up..� Good lines in this, John: �A well-considered plan that goes off the rails,� good way to present �effort� thwarted. And same with issue tipping the scales, which conveys the conundrum of sawing table legs for needed balance. My favorite line is �Yet lowering your guard can open a window.� Thank you for writing on the topic of us all sawing table legs, John. That is YOU being �a regular Wide awake�. ~~ djl

"Mama said there'd be days like this." Almost everyone can be caught off guard. The best way to deal with it is to look for an opportunity after it happened to move forward and not let what happened drag you down forever.

Like all of those that bought into Trump's latest card. Now, starting with Monday's 21% decline, they will probably lose everything they have invested within the next year.
