-- The Infinite Way --
by John Herlihy
The flower said: Do not speak to me of wonder,
The light of the day blows my heart asunder.
The garden said: Do not speak to me beauty,
The origin of my splendor but a form of mystery.
The tree said: Do not speak to me of yearning,
My uplifted limbs speak of my inner core burning.
The autumn leaves said: Do not speak to be of descending,
My burnished leaves speak of resurrection and ascending.
The dawn said: Do not speak to me of the day awakening,
The dusk said: The day dies in flaming light forsaking.
The gate said: even when closed, I am in potential open,
When the closed gate opens, its seal is finally broken.
The silence said: Be silent, there is nothing to say,
God’s love said: Be hopeful, I pave the infinite way.
